Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (April, 1999)
Authors: John Foster and Carol Thompson
Average review score:

Great fun, good learning
First Verses is packed with great rhymes, action verses, and chants. As a mother and teacher of 4 - 5 year-olds, I can HIGHLY recommend this book. "Marty Smarty" and "Mabel Murple" quickly became favorites in our classroom. It's great for building pre-reading skills, - the kids request hearing the verses over and over, and have memorized MANY of them. It's fun for both kids and adults!

The Follower
Published in Hardcover by Fitzhenry & Whiteside Ltd (September, 2000)
Authors: Richard Thompson and Martin Springett
Average review score:

A Great Read-Aloud Book
This gorgeous gem of a book is perfect for reading aloud. Thompson's words flow as gorgeously as Springett's spooky illustrations. And just when you think something really *awful* is following her home... Well, now, that would be telling, wouldn't it? : ) The surprise ending of this book, after the delightful creepiness, really is surprising... and yet, utterly perfect.

I adore this book. I love the art, I love the story. It's one I read and enjoy even if my child's not around to read it to. The repetitive and cumulative nature of this book also makes it a great book to read to children if you want them to help you tell the story. It would be a fun classroom book in that respect.

Life Saving Book
This book saved my mother's life! She was plagued with ill-health in which a countless number of doctors either attempted to cure with drugs or even worse, they claimed it was all in her head! Upon reading Dr. Braly's new book, we immediately ordered the food allergy testing Dr. Braly recommends and my mother was back on her feet within a week. For the first time in 10 years, her headaches and fatigue have been cure! Thank you Dr. Braly for this life saving book!

Forest Fires
Published in Unknown Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2000)
Author: Luke Thompson
Average review score:

high interest and low level book
This is a great high-interest and low-level reading book and series. The books are small with large print and about 50 pages long with lots of pictures. They aren't exhaustive for the topics covered, but they give a great deal of information by being concise when you consider the book's size. Special features are Did you know... fact insets, a map, glossary, list of other resources, and an index. After an attention-getting introduction, the chapters start off with a story about a particular incident and then go into the content of the chapter. Difficult words are also explained in parentheses besides being in the glossary. In this book, the three chapters cover how fires are started and how they spread, the different types of fires, and how fires are fought as well as prevention techniques. The last chapter also has an interesting page describing how wildfires are a part of earth's delicate balance and are necessary. Elementary and middle school students will benefit from these books. Even high school students might find them a nice change of pace from the thick books they normally use for research.

Forgive and Love Again
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (July, 2003)
Authors: John Nieder, Thomas T. Thompson, and Thomas M. Thompson
Average review score:

It helps you understand the importance of forgiveness.
It is one of the best that I have ever read. I never really had a problem with forgiveness. However, as I began to reevaluate my life, I found that there were persons that when I thought of them, the memories were not a memory of forgiveness. I had to revaluate and ask forgiveness for a number of persons. I have shared this book with a number of persons and we are hoping to use this book as a guide for our Summer quarter's Sunday School study. The real key is to love again. It is a consolation to know that it is possible.

The Forgotten Art of Flower Cookery
Published in Paperback by C/O Pelican Pub Co (April, 1999)
Authors: Leona Woodring Smith and Liz Thompson
Average review score:

Insighful book with unique recipes
This is a wonderful book on cooking with flowers. The over 200 recipes included are both delicious & nutritious. Most are also quick & easy to make. The book starts out with tips on selecting & gathering the flowers. Then a good French dressing that doesn't cover up the flavor of the flowers is given. Instructions for how to candy all types of flowers is given next. Recipes are arranged by flower. The number of recipes for each varies greatly. I love how the author took the time to include a brief history of each flower as well as information on its flavor & general preparation. Some of my favorite recipes are the carnation crepes, day-lily tempura, & dynasty eggs on toast made with chrysanthemums. I also enjoyed the violet studded snowballs, they made a great conversation piece.

The four moments of the sun : Kongo art in two worlds
Published in Unknown Binding by National Gallery of Art ()
Author: Robert Farris Thompson
Average review score:

Magnificently detailed insights into Congolese culture
This work details the religious, political and cultural heritage of the Congolese people of Central Africa and how that heritage is evident in art throughout the Americas, including the American South. Ornamentation, like personal affects and shards of broken glass, in Southern graveyards reflect Congolese religious heritage; baton-twirling, by Cuban dancers and Southern cheerleaders, and jug bands in Louisiana reflect Congolese musical heritage. Other aspects of African-American and American Southern culture reflect not only Congolese religious and artistic heritage, but Congolese religio-political thought and practice. Some rightly advise caution in considering the consistency of a culture over several centuries. This work, however, is not only composed magnificently, but argued well and substantiated convincingly.

For works on the same region, see books by Wyatt MacGaffey, Jan Vansina, John M. Janzen and John Kelly Thornton, in addition to other works by Robert Farris Thompson. For similar themes of African culture in America, with a stronger caveat against thinking a culture does not change over time, see works by Mechal Sobel, Michael Angelo Gomez and Melville Herskovits. For studies of people from different African regions brought to different American regions, see Philip D. Curtin, The Atlantic Slave Trade: A Census; David Eltis, et al., Routes to Slavery; and Daniel C. Littlefield, Rice and Slaves.
